Pairing your Greek Islands

Pairing your Greek Islands

Every Summer for as long as I can remember, my family has been traveling to Greece. We are Greek, however instead of going back to my "family's island", we like to explore new islands each year.

If you have 10 days and are wondering WHAT Greek islands you should go to, the guide below will help you narrow it down to 2-3!

Paros & Naxos & Day Trip to Santorini - The All-Rounders

Paros is a gem offering a fantastic balance. You'll find stunning beaches, a charming town with historical sites, and a lively, yet not overwhelming, nightlife. It's perfect for those who want a taste of everything. Naxos, its neighbor, offers a stunning village and equally beautiful beaches, especially if you love long stretches of sand and windsurfing (one of the most popular destinations in Greece to windsurf). Together, they provide a well-rounded experience of beauty & nightlife. Add a day trip to Santorini for breathtaking caldera views, and you have a perfect mix of vibrant energy and scenic beauty (about an hour-and-a-half ferry, perfect for a day trip).

Mykonos & Paros & Day Trip to Santorini - Party & Tranquility

Mykonos is synonymous with nightlife. If you're looking for some of the best clubs in the world and a high-energy atmosphere, this is your island. However, it can be very touristy. Pair it with Paros for a refreshing contrast. Paros provides a more relaxed pace (but can still be fun depending on what you are looking for), allowing you to recharge after Mykonos. This pairing is ideal for those who want to experience the best of both worlds: exhilarating nightlife and an island a bit more low-key. And as always, a Santorini day trip adds that iconic Greek landscape (about an hour and 20 minute ferry from Paros).

Milos & Naxos/Paros & Day Trip to Santorini - Unique Beaches & Island Charm

Milos is a must-visit for its unique and stunning beaches. Think dramatic rock formations and crystal-clear waters. It's a quieter island, perfect for those seeking natural beauty and a more laid-back vibe. I wouldn't recommend Milos for nightlife, however it does have a stunning town. For a more balanced experience, pair it with either Naxos or Paros. Naxos offers more beaches, and Paros offers a more well-rounded experience. This pairing is for those who prioritize natural beauty and a more authentic island experience. And of course, Santorini is always a great day trip. (about 2 hours and 30 minute ferry from Milos).

Lefkada & Kefalonia - The Ionians

The Ionian Islands offer a different kind of Greek beauty. Lefkada and Kefalonia are known for their lush landscapes, turquoise waters, and dramatic cliffs. These islands don't have the traditional white and blue architecture that you see in Greece but they have some of the most stunning beaches, hidden coves, stunning villages, and a more tranquil atmosphere than the Cyclades.

Skopelos & Skiathos - The Greenery of Greece

If you're looking for islands with lush greenery and warm waters, head to Skopelos and Skiathos. Skiathos offers some of the best nightlife and beautiful beaches, while Skopelos provides a more peaceful and authentic experience. These islands are perfect for those who want a mix of relaxation and outdoor adventure & Skopelos is where Mamma Mia was filmed (you can literally go up to that gorgeous church on the cliff)!

Crete & Day Trip to Santorini - The Biggest Island

Crete is a world of its own. It's the largest Greek island and offers something for everyone: stunning beaches, ancient ruins, vibrant cities, and charming villages. If you only have time for one island, Crete is a great choice. It's perfect for those who want a diverse and immersive Greek experience. You can also add a day trip to Santorini for that iconic view.
