Zermatt in the Winter
This charming car-free village nestled in the heart of the Alps truly stole my heart. From cozy chalets to exhilarating ski runs and delicious food, Zermatt has it all.
Where to Stay: Cozy Comfort in the Heart of Town
We kicked off our Zermatt adventure at Hotel Excelsior, and honestly, the location couldn't have been more perfect! Right in the center of town, this cute chalet offered amazing access to everything. Later in our trip, we also stayed at Hotel Albana. While it had a really nice spa and more of a boutique vibe, I have to say, I preferred Hotel Excelsior for its overall charm and central spot.
Hitting the Slopes in Zermatt!
Zermatt is a skier's dream, with a fantastic free bus system that whisks you away to any of the ski areas – super convenient! The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise was our main mountain, offering breathtaking views and incredible runs. And trust me, you'll want to get the international pass so you can ski right into Italy – it's an experience not to be missed! Also, do yourself a favor and opt for the insurance; it’s only about $30 more, and you’re covered just in case of any mishaps.
One of the absolute must-do's for après-ski is Hennu Stall. You can only get to it from the mountain, but it's worth every effort for the incredible atmosphere!
For your ski and snowboard rentals, we found Julen Sport to be a great spot.
Zermatt Delights: Food and Fun!
After a day on the slopes, you'll be ready to refuel. If there's one thing you absolutely must try, it's fondue! And remember to "Say cheese for fondue!"
And for those burger cravings, you simply have to hit up Republic Zermatt – hands down, the best burger in town.
The main street, Bahnhofstrasse, is perfect for a leisurely stroll, packed with shops, restaurants, and that quintessential Swiss charm.
Zermatt truly offers an unforgettable experience, blending thrilling outdoor adventures with cozy village vibes and delicious eats. I can't wait for you to experience it for yourself!
